Marco Scandella traded to St. Louis Blues

A pre-deadline move by Marc Bergevin nets a solid return.

With the NHL Trade Deadline less than a week away many teams have started to ship out pieces and set the market for players as the deadline approaches. The Montreal Canadiens and Marc Bergevin joined in the fun, sending defenceman Marco Scandella to the St. Louis Blues.

Originally acquired for just a fourth round pick from the Buffalo Sabres, Scandella heads to St. Louis for a second round pick, and a conditional pick in 2021. Chris Johnston of Sportsnet has the breakdown of said conditions.

It’s a shrewd bit of business by Marc Bergevin to flip an rental asset for a much higher pick than he paid, and potentially acquiring more draft capital for the future. In 20 games for the Canadiens, Scandella had two assists, and added one massive goal in a comeback win over the Toronto Maple Leafs while also collecting eight penalty minutes overall.

The NHL Trade Deadline is Monday, February 24.
